Our history

Who is behind Sicilia Gnam

My name is William and I am 26 years old.

I come from a family and generation of farmers, and I am the first in my family to become a software engineer, and this shop represents the perfect symbiosis for those who, like me, love nature and technology.

Sicily Yum

This shop is a space for small producers in my area, like my father, who would like to digitalize their business (albeit small) and become competitive in an increasingly connected world.

But above all this is my way of paying homage to my parents, grandparents, uncles and my Sicily.

For as long as I can remember, my parents took me with them to our farmland. Every day, in my work, I ask myself how I can make a difference to leave even a small positive footprint in this world. And in fact, during my academic studies I created IT tools to help farmers in my capital and beyond. [ university thesis link ], first of all because, as they say here "u beni vena da terra" (Good comes from the earth), secondly because I care about the environment, nature and the gifts it offers us

The experience

over the years, before my academic studies, I worked on the family land to gain practice, albeit small (4 Tumoli) compared to other traders and also in other people's fields, such as in the beautiful Mazzarrone where I lived for 4 years, a land known for its great production of PGI table grapes.

The events of my life led me to meet so many people who work with agriculture and taught me to love it, including my six aunts, almost all agricultural workers.

The birth of Sicilia Gnam

From the beginning of 2021 I started collaborating, a few days a week, in a dairy company, helping them in the digital transformation process. And this is where I had the inspiration: to help the many farmers and producers who unfortunately do not have the economic strength, time or technical knowledge to position themselves on the web, thus remaining the last in the supply chain despite being the ones who do the "dirty" work ".

And often, small farmers like my father, in addition to constant theft, are forced to sell at a price that is not exactly advantageous to stay in business.

Why do I do it? I have seen for years my uncles, cousins, grandparents, friends, give their blood for their land and always get little due to some big players in the sector who exploit small farmers and sometimes even workers.

the proceeds of my parents' hard-earned money and days in the countryside have allowed me to study, expand my knowledge and become who I am, and perhaps they will do the same with the children of some of our suppliers.

We have also chosen to keep costs affordable, but without exaggerating, we are not interested in ruthless competition or in maximizing profits at any cost, we want to pay our producers what they deserve.

I am available for any call or video call even just for a little chat to understand who you are buying from.

Selling on Sicily Gnam

Giving all producers the opportunity to sell through these channels is already a non-trivial saving for them. They also don't have to pay someone to handle the marketing for them. This is a showcase for everyone. If you are interested in selling your products here and have some Sicilian products, you can contact me and I will be happy to help you.
